Walk-in Cooler Door Hardware

Walk-in cooler door hardware

The handle broke. The latch will not catch. The cam-lift hinge is sagging so the door misses the strike. The pneumatic closer slams — or does nothing. The inside safety release is missing or stuck. That is walk-in cooler door hardware work, and Left Coast Refrigeration installs and replaces it from our Escondido shop for kitchens across San Diego County.

We are not a mail-order parts catalog. We do not ship you a handle and wish you luck. We look at the door, match the hardware to what is on it, and put it on — on the door you have, or on a custom walk-in door we build. Kason hardware is common on commercial walk-ins, and we install it often; we also use Component Hardware and other commercial brands when that is what the door needs. We match the door — we are not a Kason-only shop and we are not the manufacturer.

What we install and replace

  • Walk-in cooler and freezer handles — heavy-duty commercial handles, including handle-and-latch kits when the catch is worn with the grip
  • Cam-lift hinges — the hinge type most walk-in doors use; worn cams are a top reason a door will not close or latch
  • Latches and safety latches — including cylinder lock latches when the strike or bolt is done
  • Door closers — pneumatic and adjustable walk-in door closers that actually pull the door shut instead of slamming or quitting mid-swing
  • Inside safety releases / panic hardware — so the door always opens from inside; a broken or missing inside release is a trap hazard we fix on existing doors and include on custom doors

This is the same commercial walk-in door hardware work we already do on existing doors and on every custom door we hang in San Diego County and from the Escondido shop.

Sagging door, door won’t close, door won’t latch

A walk-in that will not stay shut is usually one of these:

  • Handle or latch worn so the catch does not hold
  • Hinges sagging (often cam-lift) so the door misses the strike
  • Closer tired or missing, so staff prop the door
  • Inside safety release broken or never installed
  • Gasket flattened or the wrong profile
  • Frame out of square

We fix the first four on this page — including rehang and realign when the slab is still good but the hardware has drifted. The gasket has its own page: custom commercial refrigeration gaskets made in-house (35+ profiles). If the box itself is sweating, peeling, or the floor is soft, that is a walk-in cooler refurb or a floor job — not a closer.

Good slab vs shot door

If the slab is still good — square, not delaminated, frame not bent — we replace the handle, cam-lift hinge, latch, closer, or inside release and you keep the door. Rehang and realign is often enough when the door has dropped on tired hinges.

If the door is shot, new hardware is wasting money. Soft skin, a window that is done, a jamb that will not square, a bottom kicked through. We will say so. Then the conversation is a custom walk-in cooler door and frame, not another handle on a dead slab.

We match the door — Kason and other brands

Operators often search for a Kason hinge replacement in San Diego because Kason is common on walk-ins. We install Kason hardware regularly when it matches the door. We also install Component Hardware and other commercial walk-in brands when that is what the opening needs. If you already know the part number, bring it. If you do not, that is fine — we match what is on the door, or we tell you the door is past hardware. We are an install and repair shop in Escondido, not a single-brand catalog and not the OEM factory.

Hardware, gaskets, and freezer frost

A new handle will not save a gasket that does not seal. If the door leaks at the corners, start with a custom gasket. Hardware and gasket often go together; they are not the same job. On freezer doors, heater wires in the frame keep frost off the seal and threshold — if the door is freezing shut or the gasket is tearing on ice, say that when you call. FAQ — walk-in door hardware San Diego County

Do you replace cam-lift hinges and pneumatic closers?

Yes. Cam-lift hinge replacement and pneumatic / adjustable walk-in door closer replacement are routine calls. Sagging hinges and tired closers are two of the most common reasons a commercial walk-in door won’t close or won’t latch.

Can you rehang and realign a walk-in cooler door?

Yes, when the slab and frame are still serviceable. We rehang, realign, and replace worn hinges, latches, and closers so the door hits the strike again. If the jamb is bent or the slab is delaminated, we will recommend a custom door instead of more hardware on a failed panel.

Do you install inside safety releases?

Yes. Inside safety releases (panic / inside release hardware) keep the door openable from inside. We replace broken releases on existing doors and install them on custom doors we build. A walk-in should always open from the inside.

Are you a Kason parts dealer / mail-order catalog?

No. We install commercial walk-in hardware on site from Escondido for San Diego County kitchens. Kason is common and we use it often; we also match other brands to the door. If you need a catalog shipper, that is a different business. If you need the door fixed, call the shop.

How to start

Call the shop or send a few photos of the door — handle side, hinge side, and the inside release if you have one. A photo of the whole opening helps. We tell you whether this is hardware, a gasket, or a door.
